For chains & developer programs

This page answers, in one place, the questions a retailer or developer-program team asks before granting API access: what Desi is, exactly how it would use a store-inventory API, what it never does with retailer data, and who is legally behind it. Everything stated here is current practice, not aspiration.

What Desi is

What Desi is

Desi is a voice-first assistant for drivers who need a product now, mid-route. The driver asks by voice; Desi checks the stores that lie on the driver's active route through the retailers' own official developer programs, answers with the availability the store reported and the detour time, and navigates to the physical store. It is built for the road: the driver never has to type or browse while driving.

Status, in the exact words we use everywhere:

Desi is in controlled testing with professional drivers on real routes; it is not yet available for public download and is not on app stores. A production API connection is active with one national grocery retailer through its official developer program.

Public availability: not yet scheduled.

The flow

How the inventory query works

  1. A driver asks Desi, by voice, for a product while travelling a route.
  2. Desi selects the stores that lie on that driver's active route.
  3. For one specific store, Desi sends a point query to the retailer's official store-inventory API: store number + the requested products.
  4. The API answers with the on-hand quantity for that store and the time of its last update.
  5. Desi reports what the store reported — as of that update time — and navigates the driver to the physical store.

[ This flow carries no prices, and no regulated pharmacy. ]

Final prices and the purchase itself are completed exclusively at the retailer's checkout. Desi does not sell, charge for, or hand off any product.

Categories

Categories — and their limits

Desi looks up on-route convenience items, personal care and over-the-counter (OTC) products. It does not process prescriptions or controlled medications, it offers no health advice, and it is not intended for medical emergencies. Nothing on this site or in the app suggests the availability of prescription medication.

Inventory information is provided for information only. It reflects the retailer's last update and is subject to the physical stock in the store at the moment of arrival; availability is not guaranteed.

FAQ

Questions program teams ask us

What exactly would you use a store-inventory API for?

The flow above, and nothing else: one driver, one route, one specific store, the products that driver asked for — answered with quantity and update time.

Which categories?

On-route convenience, personal care and over-the-counter products. No prescriptions, no controlled medications, no health advice.

Do you store, resell or redistribute inventory data?

No. Answers are point-in-time, serve only the driver who asked, and are never accumulated into a database, sold or republished. See "Our data policies".

How do you treat rate limits and quotas?

Queries are on-demand and route-bound by design, which keeps volume low and purposeful. We honour each program's limits, response headers and data expiry.

Would you show our prices?

Only if your official channel provides them. If it provides availability only, that is all Desi shows — availability and time — and the price is whatever your checkout says. Desi never estimates or reconstructs a retailer's prices.

Will you use our brand?

No retailer logo or brand asset appears on this site or in the app unless that retailer's program grants it. We never describe ourselves as a partner, an approved integration or an official channel of a retailer that has not approved us.

Is the app available to the public?

Not yet. Desi is in controlled testing with professional drivers, and public availability is not yet scheduled.

Can we see it working?

Yes. We offer a guided demo to developer-program and retailer teams, on request — write to us at the address below.
